Indications for Surgery in Hemorrhagic Stroke

Hemorrhagic stroke occurs due to intracerebral hemorrhage, often leading to severe neurological deficits and increased mortality risk. Surgical intervention can be life-saving in select cases.

Indications for Surgery

• Large hematoma (>30 ml) causing significant mass effect
• Rapid neurological deterioration
• Brainstem compression
• Intraventricular hemorrhage with hydrocephalus

Common Surgical Procedures

• Hematoma evacuation (craniotomy or minimally invasive techniques)
• External ventricular drainage (EVD) for hydrocephalus
• Decompressive craniectomy in cases of raised intracranial pressure

Postoperative Care

Following surgery, patients require intensive monitoring, rehabilitation, and management of complications such as cerebral edema and seizures.
