Procedure for Conducting Impedance Audiometry

Impedance audiometry, also known as tympanometry, is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate middle ear function. It assesses tympanic membrane compliance and middle ear pressure by measuring acoustic impedance.

Steps in Impedance Audiometry

Preparation: The patient is seated comfortably, and an otoscopic examination is performed to ensure an unobstructed ear canal.
Probe Insertion: A probe with a soft tip is inserted into the ear canal to establish an airtight seal.
Pressure Variation: The device systematically alters air pressure inside the canal while emitting sound stimuli.
Recording Results: The tympanogram and acoustic reflex thresholds are documented for further analysis.
