Post-Seizure Care and Recovery

Seizures can be alarming, but appropriate post-seizure care is crucial for the individual’s safety and recovery.

Immediate Post-Seizure Care

• Ensure the person is in a safe position, preferably lying on their side to prevent choking.
• Check their breathing and pulse.
• Reassure them as they regain consciousness; confusion is common.
• Monitor for any potential injuries sustained during the seizure.

Recovery Phase

The individual may experience fatigue, confusion, or difficulty speaking after a seizure. It is important to allow them time to rest and recover.

When to Seek Medical Help

• If the seizure lasts longer than five minutes.
• If the person has difficulty breathing post-seizure.
• If this is their first seizure.
• If multiple seizures occur in succession.
• If injuries are sustained during the seizure.
