Contents of the Superficial Perineal Pouch

• Bulbospongiosus muscle – involved in ejaculation and vaginal contraction.
• Ischiocavernosus muscle – stabilizes the erect penis or clitoris.
• Superficial transverse perineal muscle – supports the pelvic floor.
• Perineal branches of the pudendal nerve – provide sensory and motor innervation.
• External genitalia – including the root of the penis in males and the clitoral structures in females.

Clinical Significance

The superficial perineal pouch is prone to injuries, especially in cases of pelvic fractures or perineal trauma. Damage to this area can lead to complications such as incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and pain.
